And with his stamp, the new one was formalized on Wednesday, in order for them to take up their duties without delay, on December 1st, with a term of office until 2029.
In the one and only electronic roll-call vote for all 26 candidates, held at the plenary session in Strasbourg, the new European Commission was approved with 370 votes in favor, 282 against and 36 abstentions, out of a total of 688 voters.
Today’s approval was the last pending before the new College of Commissioners, under her presidency, could start exercising its duties from the Commission’s seat, Berlemont, in Brussels.
Commissioners’ hearings
In the previous period, depending on the portfolios assigned to them by the re-elected president, Mrs. von der Leyen, in order to assess their suitability for the position of commissioner, as well as their knowledge of the subject of their responsibilities under consideration.
The new European Commission is made up of 11 women, including the President of the Commission, and 16 men. Six commissioners have been appointed by the president as executive vice-presidents (four women, two men).
