The man threatened the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and was later arrested.
On Friday afternoon, dozens of police officers searched for a suspicious man in the historic center of Prague who came to the Faculty of Arts building of Charles University on Jan Palach Square and threatened to shoot. He then went to an unknown destination, but the police later detained him, reports TASR with reference to the Novinky.cz news website.
According to Noviniek, the suspect was caught before 3:30 p.m. on Hellichová Street. The details of the detained criminal have not yet been released, and it is also unknown to what extent he was dangerous.
The police took him to the hospital for examination
According to the police, the detained man was not armed and is not mentally well. The police therefore took him to the hospital for examination.
The incident occurred less than a year after a gunman at the faculty killed 14 people, injured 25 others and then committed suicide. On that day, the perpetrator first killed his father in the village of Hostouň, and a week earlier he murdered a bystander and his two-month-old daughter in Prague’s Klánovick Forest. Due to the death of the perpetrator and the fact that it was not possible to initiate criminal proceedings against him, the investigators postponed the case of this tragic shooting some time ago.
The chairman of the investigation commission of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic regarding the shooting at the FF UK, Pavel Kašník, announced on Friday in this regard that the commission will complete its report with conclusions in December, but the lower house of the parliament will not discuss it publicly until January. He also justified this procedure by the fact that the members of the commission do not want to spoil the memories of victims and survivors even more before Christmas.
The commission should describe the procedure of the police and rescue services and also make recommendations on how to behave in crisis situations in the future. Kašník stated that its members will meet once or twice more and fine-tune individual wordings and words, but according to him, the concept of the report is already ready.
