The President of the United States, , stated this Thursday (28) that the most recent anti-government attacks highlight the “urgency” of supporting Kiev, reinforcing his strong support before assuming the presidency in January. “This attack is outrageous and serves, once again, as a stark reminder of the urgency and importance of supporting the people of Ukraine in their defense against Russian aggression,” Biden said in a statement.

Earlier on Thursday, Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy grid with nearly 200 missiles and drones, leaving a million people without power. . “Today, my message to the Ukrainian people is clear: the United States stands with you,” added Biden, who seeks to consolidate American support for Ukraine in the final days of his term.

Trump is expected to implement a radical change in policy towards Ukraine, which has received around $60 billion from Washington for its military since Russia launched the full-scale invasion in February 2022. Trump promised a quick end to the conflict, brokering a ceasefire agreement between Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

However, his critics warn that the Republican will likely use American military aid as a pressure tool to force Kiev to accept a deal. On Wednesday, Trump named as his special envoy for Ukraine retired Gen. Keith Kellogg, co-author of a document drafted earlier this year that recommended Washington use military aid as a means of promoting peace talks.
