The National Council of Justice (CNJ) decided to temporarily remove the federal judge of the 4th Region Sandro Nunes Vieira. He was mentioned in the Federal Police (PF) report regarding the Federal Supreme Court (STF) investigation investigating an attempted coup d’état. Minister Alexandre de Moraes removed the confidentiality of the report last Tuesday (26)
In a note sent to the press, the CNJ informed that the case is being processed in secrecy and the decision took place after the council received a letter from the STF about the magistrate’s conduct.
In the report, the PF points out the judge’s participation “in the context of preparing the report produced by the IVL with attacks on electronic voting machines” based on dialogues extracted from the cell phone of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, Jair Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp ( PL). Sandro Nunes worked at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) in 2022.
According to the corporation, on November 19, 2022, when “Valdemar Costa Neto announced the problem that would have affected ballot boxes manufactured before 2020”, Bolsonaro’s former advisor Marcelo Câmara sent Mauro Cid a .pdf file with the title “note judge sandro vieira nunes”.
“Based on the information obtained, the judge called Sandro, cited on November 16, 2022 and who was announced by the president of the Liberal Party as one of the people who maintained contact regarding the matter, did not respect his request for reservation regarding his name” , says the PF.
The PF also pointed out conversations between Marcelo Câmara and Judge Sandro in which they discussed electronic voting machines and the PL’s action against the election.
“In this context, the evidence identified by the investigation demonstrates that Sandro Nunes Vieira acted illegally and clandestinely, when advising the Liberal Party on electoral representation against electronic voting machines”, states the PF in the report.
Despite appearing in the PF report, the federal judge is not one of the 37 indicted in the alleged coup attempt. However, the STF asked the CNJ for the judge’s precautionary removal.
In the 884-page document, the PF says that the evidence gathered in the investigation demonstrates that Bolsonaro “planned, acted and had direct and effective control over the executional acts carried out by the criminal organization that aimed to carry out a Coup d’Etat and the Abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law”. It states that, since 2019, the former president has disseminated “the false narrative of the existence of vulnerability and fraud in the country’s electronic voting system”.
