After purchasing the work Comedian, created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, which was sold at a Sotheby’s auction in New York last week, Sun decided it would be part of the work’s history to eat it at a press conference.
The edible creation’s debut at Art Basel 2019 in Miami Beach sparked controversy and raised questions about whether it should be considered art – Cattelan’s stated goal.
Sun also announced this week a $30 million investment in World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency project backed by US President-elect Donald Trump.

In a new pledge, the cryptocurrency billionaire set out to purchase 100,000 bananas from Alam’s stall and declared that the bananas would be distributed worldwide as “a celebration of the beautiful connection between everyday life and art.” Sun said he hopes to visit Alam’s stall in person one day.
The owner of the artwork receives a certificate of authenticity proving it was created by Cattelan, as well as instructions on how to replace the fruit when it spoils.
