The president of the Parliamentary Front for the Free Market (FPLM), deputy Luiz Philippe de Orleans and Bragança (PL-SP)harshly criticized the attempt to contain public spending. The announcement was made at the National Economic Freedom Conference, held in the Chamber of Deputies.
During the event, parliamentarians, representatives of the productive sector and civil society leaders discussed topics such as free markets, de-bureaucratization, tax reform and the urgent need for administrative reform.

According to the parliamentarian, the current measures worsen the financial crisis and penalize the middle class. “What we see now are policies that burden the middle class, while basic items become unaffordable. In Argentina, this led to chaos: too many subsidies on one side, galloping inflation on the other. We are following the same path and thinking that the result will be different”, warned Luiz Philippe.
In the same vein, Mauricio Marcon (Podemos-RS) highlighted the importance of guaranteeing concrete benefits for the population. According to him, privatizations, such as that of Petrobras, need to be associated with direct advantages for citizens, such as reducing fuel and food prices.
“When people experience economic freedom, they realize they can earn more and have more autonomy. This is what we need to communicate clearly: freedom brings opportunities and prosperity, while interventionism only perpetuates stagnation,” said Marcon.
Representative Gilson Marques (Novo-SC) pointed out that high taxes, excessive regulations and legal uncertainty discourage entrepreneurship. “It is necessary to make society aware that saving and investing are the true drivers of the economy, even if the current scenario discourages this behavior. Brazil needs to stop punishing those who take risks to create value in the future”, said Gilson.
Urgency of administrative reform
Administrative reform was highlighted by parliamentarians as an urgent agenda to precede tax reform. Representative Adriana Ventura (Novo-SP) highlighted that the focus of public policies must be the citizen and not corporate interests.
“We cannot carry out tax reform without first facing administrative reform. The Brazilian citizen, who pays the bill, needs to be at the center of decisions. Today, public service is not as good as it should be, and good public servants end up being massacred”, defended Adriana.
In closing, the executive director of Instituto Livre Mercado, Rodrigo Marinhoannounced the launch of a manifesto letter for administrative reform, signed by 96 entities.
The document advocates changes to the probationary stage, review of the stability of public positions and more rigorous evaluation criteria, valuing efficient employees. “The coalition of Parliamentary Fronts maintains its focus on administrative reform, which promises to generate a positive impact on public accounts and, consequently, on the economy as a whole”, declared Marinho.
The letter will be delivered to the government as part of the mobilization in favor of reforms that prioritize efficiency, transparency and fiscal responsibility.
