The minister (Civil House) said on Thursday (November 28, 2024) that the president (PT) has already chosen the new directors of the BC (Central Bank), who will occupy vacant seats from January 2025. According to him, the Nominations must be sent to the Senate by early next week.
“I don’t have the names here, otherwise I could even reveal them. There is no secret to this, but the president has already decided”, declared the minister to journalists after an event at Palácio do Planalto.
Rui Costa stated that Lula is considering holding a ceremony for the symbolic appointment of Gabriel Galípolo as president of the BC next week. According to the minister, the president can take advantage of the opportunity to announce Planalto’s nominees for the organization’s board of directors.
Before taking office, the nominees must undergo a hearing at the CAE (Economic Affairs Committee) and be approved in a vote in the Senate plenary, scheduled for December 11th.
Galípolo has already faced the process and went before the senators on October 8. He takes over on January 1, 2025, replacing Roberto Campos Neto.
Costa said that the federal government is counting down to have the BC “run by people who live in Brazil and don’t live in Miami”. Campos Neto has been in the US since November 21, according to the agency.
