In her resignation letter, British Transport Minister Louise Haigh states that she did not benefit from her mistake. However, she resigned a few hours after the news broke in the media.
British Transport Minister Louise Haigh resigned from her post. She also pleaded guilty to misleading the police because she claimed that her work mobile phone was stolen in 2013. TASR informs about this according to Friday’s report by the Reuters agency.
The minister resigned a few hours after the case with the phone was revealed by the British media. Haigh, 37, said in her resignation letter to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer that she lost her mobile phone during a “terrifying” nighttime robbery in 2013. She later discovered that she had the phone at home. According to her, it was a mistake from which she “made no profit”.
She decided to resign because, according to her, this matter distracts from the fulfillment of the tasks of the government and the goals to which it is committed. “I remain fully committed to our political project, but now I believe it will be best served by supporting you from the outside,” she said.
The British Prime Minister thanked Haigh for her work so far and for everything she has done “for the implementation of this government’s ambitious transport programme”.
