A former firefighter named Simon English sa he thought he was suffering from just a common cold. Finally he had to spend up to three months in the hospital because he actually had a much more serious illness. , the man’s doctors said he was very close to death.
Instead of the flu, he suffered from a fatal illness
Simon, 55, from Yorkshire, England, initially thought he had contracted the virus from his wife. However, it did not take long and his flu symptoms of fever, cough and fatigue started to turn into something much worse.
When the man noticed something was wrong, he visited the hospital. There he finally learned the shocking news. Doctors to Simon they said he was suffering from a deadly bacterial infection called necrotizing fasciitis. It’s about a disease that damages parts of soft tissue, with experts warning that one in five patients will not survive it.
He spent months in the hospital
In the case of a 55-year-old the man’s infection attacked his lower body, for which he spent three months in the intensive care unit. “I felt like I had a bad cold. I’m one of those people who rarely gets sick. My wife had similar symptoms and I thought she caught it at work. But now I look like a shark bit my ass,” he noted, adding that he had to undergo four operations to get rid of the infection. “I was so close to death,” he added.
Simon later they sent him for a skin transplant on his buttock, taking part of the skin from his right leg. The doctors found that the infection was incredibly strong, while the man also had to undergo an emergency colostomy (removal of part of the colon to the surface of the abdomen)so that the wound can heal properly. “I had to walk the corridors with a walker for the elderly. I was in the hospital for the next two months,” he explained.
Although a 55-year-old retiree in June released from the hospital, still waiting for the reversal procedure to take place. “Everything is healed except the stoma. My wound is completely gone, though it looks a little funny because it’s a skin transplant. I have now started doing some minor maintenance work. I hope so I will know more in the next eight weeks“, he said.
