Botafogo wins Libertadores 2024
This victory not only ended a drought of almost three decades without major titles—the last one had been the 1995 Brazilian Championship—but also included the Rio club in the select group of continental champions.
Botafogo’s campaign in the Libertadores was marked by overcoming and determination. Starting its journey in the preliminary phase, the team faced traditional South American football opponents. In the semifinals, Glorioso eliminated Peñarol, from Uruguay, with an impressive 5-0 victory in the first game, guaranteeing a place in the final despite a 1-0 defeat in the return game.
In addition to sporting glory, the title brought financial benefits. Botafogo guaranteed a prize of US$23 million (approximately R$137.9 million) for winning the Libertadores.
Throughout the competition, Galo accumulated prizes for advancement in each phase, totaling more than R$90 million until the semi-final.
