The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced, this Friday (29), an important donation from the Kingdom of Denmark to the Amazon Fund, worth 150 million Danish crowns, the equivalent of around R$127 million .
The agreement was formalized during a meeting in Brasília, which was attended by representatives from BNDES, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA), and ambassadors from countries with large contributions to the fund.

This is Denmark’s first contribution to the Amazon Fund, a commitment made after discussions and alignments with Brazilian authorities.
The deputy head of mission of the Royal Danish Embassy in Brazil, Leif Kokholm, highlighted the importance of the partnership and future opportunities for cooperation between the two countries, especially with the holding of COP30 in Belém in 2025 and the Danish presidency of the European Union in the same year.
Kokholm also referred to the country’s visit to the Amazon, carried out with the presence of Queen Mary of Denmark, and the relevance of maintaining a focus on climate issues.

“I also want to thank my colleagues at BNDES for their cooperation in reaching this important agreement. I had the pleasure this year of traveling to the Amazon rainforest, to Manaus, with Her Majesty, Queen Mary, and showing her the important cause that unites us here today. Next year, Brazil will host COP30 here in Belém and Denmark will assume the presidency of the European Union. This is an important opportunity to deepen cooperation between Brazil and Denmark and the other partners, who are represented here today”, stated the diplomat.
Denmark’s donation adds to a global effort to support the Amazon Fund, which since its creation in 2008 has raised around R$4.5 billion.
With resources aimed at combating deforestation, environmental monitoring and promoting sustainable conservation in the Amazon, the fund has already benefited thousands of people and helped protect millions of hectares of forest.
