Dusting is a tedious task, but it cannot be avoided. It is present everywhere and quickly settles on surfaces. Not only does it look unsightly, but it is also dangerous for our health (especially for allergy sufferers). Although it is impossible to completely eliminate dust from your home, we can minimize its presence. Wipe the furniture with a homemade mixture and it won’t come back for a long time.

Why is your home full of dust?

Dust is a problem that we all face. It settles everywhere – on furniture, carpets, floors, electronic devices, books or curtains. It not only spoils the aesthetics of the interior, but it also collects substances that are harmful to health. The presence of dust in the home especially bothers allergy sufferers who experience problems such as:

  • frequent sneezing
  • watery eyes
  • a cold
  • itching
  • headaches

Where does it come from?

  • Dust is a mixture of various fine particles and is also a shelter for many microorganisms.
  • Among other things, it contains particles of sand, bits of dead skin, hair, dander, clothing fibers, pollen, insects and mites (including their secretions).

Dust generation is related to daily activities, which we perform at home. Walking, cooking, hanging laundry and even going to bed release particles that then settle on surfaces. Dust particles also enter the apartment through open windows or doors and their gaps or ventilation openings (especially if the apartment is located near a busy street or park). They are also carried on shoes, clothes and shopping bags.

What can be done to prevent dust from quickly settling on the furniture?

Regular dust removal is important not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also for our health, because it may contain allergens, mites and other harmful particles. Unfortunately, this task is not one of our favorite household chores. Sometimes it seems that the more often we wipe the dust, the faster it comes back. The truth is that it cannot be removed from our household once and for all. However, there are ways to help reduce its spread and ensure that it does not settle on furniture for a long time.

A homemade mixture will come to your aid, which you can prepare from easily available ingredients:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 PL vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid

How to do it?

  1. Mix the ingredients together and pour into a spray bottle.
  2. Apply the resulting liquid to a soft microfiber cloth and then wipe the dusty surfaces.

This will prevent long-term accumulation of dust on the furniture. It is necessary to remember that the order of cleaning is important. Start with the highest surfaces (such as cabinets, shelves and furniture tops) and work your way down to the lowest. Regular ventilation also contributes to reducing dust, which helps to exchange indoor air for fresh air from outside.
