Gašpar’s clear words: Huliak could get the ministry only if…

The discussion about whether non-classified member of parliament Rudolf Huliak could get the ministry is only possible if he returns to the CIS as a club with two other defectors. This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Tibor Gašpar (Smer-SD) in the Sunday discussion show O 5 minút 12. According to the vice-chairman of the KDH and ex-minister of justice Viliam Karas, the situation in the coalition is “ripe” for expressing no confidence in the government.

According to Gašpar, it is possible to govern with 76 deputies, but he admitted that it is difficult. However, he would not call the situation a governmental crisis. According to him, the Thursday (November 28) vote is proof of that. He also clarified that they will continue to apply for 79 deputies. To keep them, though they need to continue communicating in the coalition. Karas thinks that the situation in the coalition best suits Smer-SD and Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD), who leave their coalition partners “at the barricades”. He is not even sure of the claims that there is no government crisis, according to him there is a crisis in the whole country.

Gašpar did not agree with Karas’ claims that the situation would suit Fico. He declared that in Smer, they are interested in ruling peacefully and professionally and that they will try to be a mediator where there are conflicts. However, he can imagine that the demands of the deputies around Huliak would be written down in a memorandum.

On the other hand, according to Gašpar, the behavior of deputy Samuel Migaľ (Hlas-SD), who did not support two amendments to laws from the SNS workshop, is a violation of the coalition agreement. He also stressed that Migaľ did not submit an official amendment. Referring to his information, he admitted that there could be a conflict of interest in this situation.

Karas recalled that the KDH had been drawing attention to the government’s mistakes since the beginning. He fears that there will be more memoranda in the coalition. According to him, the current situation in the government coalition cannot be maintained for a long time. He also ruled out that the KDH would support the government, because it does not agree with where Slovakia is headed economically.

In connection with the upcoming vote on the state budget for next year, Gašpar clarified that consolidation measures will affect everyone, but not equally. He also sees no reason to combine the vote on the state budget with the vote on expressing confidence in the government. He also thinks that the state budget will be approved. According to Karas, the state budget is set incompetently because all the “burden” of consolidation is transferred to the people. He also drew attention to the fact that the consolidation will also apply to the next election period.

Regarding the vote of no confidence in the Minister of the Interior Matúš Šutaj Eštok (Voice-SD) Gašpar confirmed that they tried to pass the meeting, but according to him, they have more important approvals of laws on their agenda. He also reminded that they did not find a consensus on the issue to shorten the debate to 12 hours. In defense of the Minister of the Interior, Gašpar stated that the situation in the police was never ideal. According to Karas, Šutaj Eštok manages his department incompetently. He also blamed him for making peace with Andrej Babiš. He also thinks that the coalition moved the vote on this matter because 76 MPs do not agree.

In connection with Thursday’s meeting of the Security Council of the Slovak Republic, Gašpar stated that all objects of critical infrastructure will have increased attention. He believes that Ukraine would not be interested in damaging Slovak infrastructure. Karas noted that the security forces should work in such cases so as not to traumatize citizens.
