The deputy (-RJ) says he has the approval of the former president (PL) to assume leadership of the party in 2025. The position is currently occupied by (PL-RJ), who must be nominated by the party to join the Board of Directors in the next biennium.
The leader of the Republicans, (PB), in , signed an agreement with the PL to give the party the first vice-presidency — the party has the largest bench in the House, with 93 deputies.
Sóstenes today occupies the second vice-presidency of the Board and is one of the most active names in the opposition to the government (PT). Author of , he is considered the pastor’s spokesperson in the Chamber.
To the Panel, he says he spoke with Bolsonaro two weeks ago. According to him, the former president said that greater efficiency is needed from the bench to monitor the Executive’s actions.
“President Bolsonaro supports my name to be leader. He thinks that the work of our inspection with government spending can be more efficient. He thinks we need to improve the technical advisory support a little bit to give us these elements. We need to give it a magnifying glass greater in this”, he says.
Sóstenes states that next week he should meet with the national president of the party, , to discuss the issue. He also intends to individually seek out all deputies from the party in search of support.
The leaders of the Chamber have a series of responsibilities, including participating in the weekly meeting with the president of the House to discuss the plenary agenda and other legislative topics, such as those related to committees. Furthermore, it is up to these leaders to guide the benches during the votes — they also have the right to speaking time in the discussions.
