The optimal temperature in the home is an incredibly important factor. Once it’s unsatisfactory, it not only affects your wallet, but also has a negative impact on your health and quality sleep. And since each room in the apartment is used differently, it also requires different conditions, even during each season.
Why is the right temperature important?
An incorrectly set temperature in the apartment can have adverse effects on health. Too high a temperature causes dehydration, fatigue, irritation of the mucous membranes and can increase the risk of infections. On the contrary, a temperature that is too low can cause a cold, increase blood pressure and worsen breathing problems. The ideal temperature in the living room and children’s room is 23 to 27 °C, in the kitchen 22 to 25 °C and in the bathroom 21 to 23 °C. In case you have an air conditioner, don’t overdo it with cooling the air. The difference between outside and inside temperatures should not be higher than 5 °C, otherwise you will catch a cold.
Winter and sleep
For sleeping in winter, the ideal temperature in the bedroom is around 17 to 20 °C. These are values that are ideal for quality sleep and at the same time so that you don’t catch a cold. At these temperatures, you will breathe much better than in an overheated room. Alternatively, you can treat yourself to a warmer blanket and pyjamas. At the same time, you will also reduce heating costs.
Summer and sleep
In the summer, you should maintain a similar temperature in the bedroom as during the winter. Too high temperatures during hot summer days can worsen the quality of sleep and cause unpleasant sweating. So, if it’s hot, you can use the air conditioning again, but again, don’t overdo it with lowering the temperature, there would be a risk of catching a cold.
Departure from home
If you are going to be away from home for a few days or longer, it is advisable to reduce the heating temperature to a minimum level in winter, i.e. something around 5 to 10 °C. In this way, you save on energy costs and prevent possible property damage such as freezing of distribution lines. In the summer, it is enough to properly close all the windows or darken them. The ideal temperature at this time of year when you are not in the apartment is 28 to 30 °C.
