Although the performance was not what the Tricolores expected, Bahia’s 2-1 victory over Cuiabá, at Arena Pantanal, came as a relief in the crisis that the Squadron was experiencing in the Brazilian Championship. In addition to interrupting the streak of seven games without winning, the Bahian team set its record for victories in the same edition of Série A by straight points.

Until then, Bahia’s best record was 13 victories in the Brasileirão, a feat achieved in the 2017 season. That year, the team finished the competition with 50 points, in 12th place, earning a place in the Copa Sudamericana. Now, the team has the same 50 points, but with 14 victories.

Bahia also ended a drought that was going on against Cuiabá. This was the first time that the Tricolor beat the Central-West team in history. In official games, the teams faced each other six times, with three draws, two Bahian defeats and one victory.

With two more games left until the end of the Brazilian Championship, Bahia can still beat other important marks. Tricolor, for example, never finished the points run in the first half of the table. The best placement so far was 11th place, in 2019.

The most important objective, however, is to return to the Libertadores after 35 years. The Squadron remains firmly in the fight, it is in 7th place, within the G8.

By the way, Bahia can guarantee classification this Tuesday (3), if they win the direct confrontation with Corinthians, at 8 pm, at Neo Química Arena, in São Paulo. The black and white team has the same 50 points and appears in 8th place, with one victory less than the tricolor.

“A fundamental result. We come from two well-played games, but with no expected result. We were below what we can deliver. In the first half I thought it was a bad attitude for a team that wants to compete in the Libertadores. In the second half we improved a little. In the first 15 minutes we didn’t manage to come from behind, but we managed to win, which was the most important thing. Now we have two days to train and face a Corinthians team that is coming in strong. We need to find a solution to play good football”, said coach Rogério. Ceni.
