At least two people died this Monday (2) in Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, Lebanese authorities reported.

The Israeli army declared that the targets of the action were military vehicles operating near a base belonging to the militant group Hezbollah, supported by Iran, in Bekaa, in the south of the country.

Israeli troops also attacked vehicles used for weapons transfers near the Syria-Lebanon border, they said in an official statement, saying a Lebanese soldier was injured in the offensive.

which came into force on Wednesday (27), determines that Israel not carry out offensive military operations against civilian, military or other state targets in Lebanon, while the Arab country must prevent any armed group, including Hezbollah, from carrying out operations against Israel.

In recent days, the two countries have been exchanging accusations of violations and, this Monday (2), the violence became deadly.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed the death of one person during an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon, about 10 km from the border with Israel

While Lebanon’s state security reported that another Israeli drone strike killed a member of its force who was on duty in Nabatieh, 12 km from the border.

State security considered the fact a “flagrant violation” of the truce.

The Lebanese army also announced that an Israeli drone hit an army excavator in northeast Lebanon, near the border with Syria, and injured a soldier.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to Reuters’ questions about the incidents in Marjayoun and Nabatieh.

Understand conflicts in the Middle East

At the end of November, a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was approved. This comes after months of bombings by the Israeli Army in Lebanon.

The offensive caused destruction and forced more than a million people to leave their homes to escape the war. Furthermore, it left dozens of people dead in Lebanese territory.

Like Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad are radical groups financed by Iran, and therefore enemies of Israel. The expectation is that the agreement will serve as the basis for a more lasting cessation of hostilities.

At the same time, the war continues in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli military is fighting Hamas and searching for hostages who were kidnapped more than a year ago during the radical group’s attack on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023. At the time, more than 1,200 people were killed and 250 kidnapped.

Since then, more than 43,000 Palestinians have died in Gaza during Israel’s offensive, which also destroyed virtually every building in the Palestinian territory.

On a third front of conflict, Israel and Iran exchanged attacks, which despite raising tension, did not evolve into an all-out war.

In addition, the Israeli Army has been carrying out bombings on Iranian-allied militia targets in Syria, Yemen and Iraq.
