Russia’s defense ministry said its air force had carried out airstrikes targeting Syrian rebels to support the country’s military, Russian news agencies reported today, amid an advance by forces fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The blows to support Assad, a close ally of Moscow, followed the most surprise rebel attack in recent days.
The state-run Russian Center for Reconciliation of Hostile Sides in Syria said the missile strikes targeted “concentrations of militants, command posts, warehouses and artillery positions” in Aleppo and Idlib provinces.
He added that around 300 rebel fighters were killed in the attacks.
