The Ukrainian leader told journalists in Kiev that the White House has influence on the decisions of the countries that make up the alliance

The Ukrainian president, (Servant of the People, center), asked the government for help in convincing the member countries of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) to invite Ukraine to be part of the alliance. The request was made on Sunday (Dec 1, 2024), while the head of state was speaking to journalists in Kiev.

The Ukrainian leader declared that some NATO members remain reluctant to invite Ukraine to join the alliance and stated that a position from the White House could interfere in the decisions taken by the members.

2 months left for the current United States government [terminar]. They have influence over the few Europeans who are skeptical about our future [na Otan]”, disse Zelensky.

The Ukrainian president stressed the need to recognize the entire Ukrainian territory, and not some parts of the country, as a member, even though the NATO defense agreement cannot operate in areas occupied by Russian troops. For Zelensky, this would be the equivalent of understanding that other areas of Ukraine are no longer part of the country.

There can be no invitation from NATO to [apenas] a part of Ukrainian territory”, declared the president.

Next to Zelensky was the new president of the Council of Member States of the European Union, António Costa. He traveled to Ukraine on the first day of his term in office to support the country in the war against Russia.

The Ukrainian government wants NATO members to make a decision regarding the country’s membership during an alliance meeting that will take place this week in Brussels.

The tension between Zelensky and NATO comes as the company approaches its 3rd anniversary.

RELATIONSHIP WITH TRUMP

Regarding Donald Trump (Republican Party), Zelensky stated that he hopes to work with the future American president and make him “a big supporter” of the Ukrainian cause. Ukraine’s leader said he will share a new plan for ending the war with the Republican and expects suggestions in return.

I want to work with him directly because there are different voices of people around him. And that’s why we can’t [permitir] let no one around destroy our communication”, he declared.

Zelensky said he has not spoken to Trump since the former president’s victory in the November 5 US election. The last face-to-face meeting between the two was in September, in New York. The leader of the country at war stated that he intends to schedule new meetings.
