Alckmin says GDP exceeded market expectations and highlights the role of industry

Or vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) this Tuesday (3) praised the growth of Brazil’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the third quarter of this year.

Alckmin, who is also Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, stated that the data exceeded the expectations of the financial market.

The vice-president spoke during an event of the Nova Indústria Brasil (NIB) program and highlighted the role of the industrial sector in the result of the country’s economic growth.

in comparison with the previous three months, showed data released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) this Tuesday.

The third quarter result was in line with expectations in a Reuters survey of economists.

GDP, which is the sum of final goods and services produced in Brazil, reached R$ 2.989 trillion in current values,

In comparison with the third quarter of 2023, GDP grew 4%, slightly above the 3.9% expected by analysts.

The performance compared to the second quarter was within the LSEG consensus estimate of analysts, which predicted an increase of 0.9%.

The increases in Services (0.9%) and Industry (0.6%) contributed to the positive rate in the quarter, although Agriculture fell once again in the period, with 0.9% less contribution to GDP .

From a demand perspective, in the same comparison, there were increases in all three components: family consumption increased by 1.5% and government consumption grew by 0.8%; Gross Fixed Capital Formation, a measure of investments, rose 2.1%.
