Randolfe talks about approving spending package in two weeks

The senator (PT-AP), leader of the government in Congress, stated that the PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) for the review of expenses, to the National Congress on Monday (2.Dec.2024), should be approved in the next two weeks, but it should undergo changes along the way. “It is natural to the legislative process. The Executive proposes and Parliament makes adjustments”said the congressman.

For the senator, the essential thing remains to release the proposal in the period mentioned to help the government in advancing the spending package. “The most important thing is that in these two weeks we approve the entire set of measures proposed by the government and the minister [da Fazenda, Fernando] HaddadRandolfe told journalists on Monday (Dec 2), as he left the Senate.

According to Randolfe, the release of parliamentary amendments, by STF (Supreme Federal Court) minister Flávio Dino, will help advance the package. “Any outstanding issues will be resolved,” declared. “This helps us keep up with this schedule”he stated.

The proposal, made on Monday (Dec 2) by the president (PT) to Congress, provides for a review of government expenses. The projection to cut spending from 2025 to 2030 is R$327 billion. In 2025 and 2026, the estimated impact is R$71.9 billion. The economic team also plans to change the rules on the minimum wage, social benefits and military retirement to save R$327 billion in 6 years. Here is the order (PDF – 91 kB).
