Increase in production to 21.6 million tons is expected after expansion of the planted area
/RS (Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company) estimates that soybean production in Rio Grande do Sul should exceed 21.6 million tons for the 2024/2025 harvest, a growth of almost 19% compared to the previous cycle .
The increase is the result of the expansion in planting space, in addition to the improvement in crop productivity. The area destined for soybeans should reach around 6.8 million hectares, an increase of 1.54% compared to the last harvest. The data was released during Fesasoja 2024, in Santa Rosa (RS), last Saturday (November 30, 2024).
A productivity of 3,179 kg per hectare is expected – a value 13.17% higher than that obtained in the 2023/2024 harvest. Favorable weather conditions and the use of advanced technologies in crop management contribute to the increase.
To date, 65% of the areas have already been planted, despite some failures due to periods of low rainfall from the 2nd half of November onwards.
The Monitora Ferrugem RS Program, a partnership between the (Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation) and Emater, was announced for this cycle. It should help producers in the management of Asian soybean rust, one of the main threats to the crop, by monitoring the disease’s spores.
