Bayer Leverkusen defeated Bayern Munich 1-0 this Tuesday at the Allianz Arena and secured a place in the quarter-finals of the German Cup. With the elimination, the Munich team reached the fifth consecutive year without titles in the competition.
Bayern started the match better and had 73% possession of the ball. But little by little Leverkusen knew how to find gaps in the hosts’ defense to connect good counterattacks.
In one of them, at 16 minutes, the move took place that changed the outlook of the match. Frimpong was released, beat the entire Bayern defense and appeared in front of Neuer. The goalkeeper committed the foul outside the area and received a red card.
From then on, the game became more balanced. In the second half, at 23 minutes, the only goal of the game came. Grimaldo escaped to the left and crossed to Nathan Tella, with a header, opening the scoring and defining the victory and classification for Leverkusen.
Three more games were played this Tuesday for the German Cup: Werder Bremen 1 x 0 Darmstadt, Arminia Bielefeld 3 x 1 Freiburg and Jahn Regensburg 0 x 3 Stuttgart.
