Many people cannot imagine Christmas Eve dinner without dumplings, which are a classic of Polish cuisine. During Christmas we eat them with cabbage and mushrooms. The little ones love this cheese dish. Magda Gessler presented a simple recipe for dumpling dough, suitable for any filling – it is perfect for beginners.
The Internet is flooded with various recipes for dumpling dough, especially during the Christmas period. Some people add an egg to the mixture, others add oil. There are also those who add milk.
The biggest dilemma concerns adding the egg. Magda Gessler’s recipe does not include this product because it can make the dough hard and difficult to roll out, and we want it to be soft and delicate.
What ingredients do we need to make dumpling dough according to Magda Gessler’s recipe? Here is the exact list:
- 500 g of wheat flour;
- 200 ml of warm water;

To make perfect dumplings, for starters sift wheat flour with salt on a clean kitchen counter or table. Then pour half of the warm water and start kneading the dough vigorously.
Then add the remaining water and knead the mass again. The dough must be elastic and not stick to your hands.
Put the kneaded mass into a bowl, cover it with a cloth and set aside for 10 minutes in a warm place. During this time, the gluten will bind and the dumplings will become soft.
After this time, place the dough on a countertop that has been previously sprinkled with flour. We start rolling out the mass thinly.
Using a glass, cut out circles on the dough. Place the filling on each of them and form the dumpling dough.
