US President-elect cited arguments similar to those used by Biden to pardon his son
The president-elect of the USA, Donald Trump (Republican Party), called for the nullification of the jury and the dismissal of the case involving former porn actress Stormy Daniels. In the motion, his defense cited the arguments presented by the country’s current chief executive, Joe Biden (Democratic Party), for a presidential pardon for his son Hunter Biden.
In a statement from the White House, Biden declared that his son was “treated differently” and that the accusations were influenced by “pressure from his political opponents in Congress”.
Trump was accused of covering up a payment made to former porn star Stormy Daniels during the election campaign that led him to the US Presidency in 2016 so that she would not disclose an extramarital affair between the two. The indictment (in English – PDF – 121 kB), on March 30, 2023, contained 34 charges against Trump for “falsification of business records in the 1st degree”. In a motion (in English – PDF – 986 kB) filed on Monday (Dec 2, 2024), Trump’s defense cited the arguments used by Biden to pardon his son.
The lawyers stated that the DOJ (Department of Justice) that handled Hunter Biden’s case is the same as “coordinated and supervised the politically motivated witch hunt.” and to “electoral interference” targeting the Republican.
Trump’s defense said that “since prosecutor Alvin Bragg took office, he has engaged in ‘precisely the kind of political theater’ that President Biden has condemned”.
According to the document, the case “It would never have been opened if it weren’t for political opinions“the Trump,”for the transformative national movement established under his leadership” e “for the political threat he poses to corrupt and entrenched politicians in Washington DC and beyond”.
