US President-elect Donald Trump is considering replacing Pete Hegseth with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as head of the Pentagon, according to sources. Republican senators are concerned about growing allegations about the former Fox News host’s personal life.
Choosing DeSantis, one for president, would represent a turnaround for Trump. By contrast, DeSantis is also known as a conservative and shares the president-elect’s — and Hegseth’s — vision of eliminating what they see as “woke” policies in the military.
Trump’s allies increasingly feel he may not survive further scrutiny, according to people close to the president-elect’s team, who see the next 48 hours as crucial to his fate.

DeSantis was on an earlier list of potential defense secretary candidates that transition officials presented to the president and was again considered. Still, Trump could decide not to pick DeSantis and select another name if Hegseth’s nomination fails, people familiar with the matter said. Source: Dow Jones Newswires.
