The list of Wikipedia’s most searched topics in 2024 is out. With American elections, the Euro and some scandals in between, there have been significant changes compared to last year.

What have you been searching for on the Internet? If you’ve searched for “Kamala Harris” recently, you’re not alone — you’re even joined by 28,960,277 other searches.

The Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit organization that runs the site, released its annual list of the most visited pages on Wikipedia (with numbers collected until November 22nd), which show the topics that people most wanted to find out about in 2024.

The page that displays deaths in a given year were topped the list five times since 2015, when the Wikimedia Foundation began releasing the data, and this was no exception. This topic has never been lower than third place on the list.

In second place is Kamala Harris, ahead of Donald Trump, who occupies fifth place on the list. Still, as highlighted by , global research was heavily guided by American cultureboth on a political and entertainment level. Names like Taylor Swift or Sean “Didi” Combs and films like “Deadpool and Wolverine” appear at the top.

There were also relegations: ChatGPT, which was the most visited article in 2023, dropped in its ranking to the 12th most visited page.

But also the India’s population density is reflected in this list: Topics like “Indian Premier League” or the Bollywood movie “Kalki 2898 AD” had tens of millions of searches.

Within the list, it is also possible to see the events that most impacted internet users around the world. These include the Olympic Games, the Euro, the American and Indian elections and international scandals such as that of the Menendez brothers, who murdered their parents and were the protagonists of a Netflix series.

Wikipedia was launched in 2001 and is maintained by more than 260,000 editors who do this work voluntarily (yes, anyone who wants can edit Wikipedia). In 2024, there were more than 31 million edits to the site and almost 3.5 billion bytes of information were addedaccording to the Wikimedia Foundation.
