Add some to the apple pie and throw the rest into the pot. This is how you can effectively fight groundworms

Many gardeners are looking for natural and simple ways to fight groundworms. It turns out that we can use a popular kitchen product that we often add to cakes, for example. We’re talking about cinnamon, which will help us when we struggle with the problem of groundworms. Check how it works and how to use it so you don’t have to worry.

Cinnamon is not only a tasty and healthy kitchen spice. It also has properties that make it useful for gardeners. It turns out that it is effective in the fight against groundworms because its smell deters adults. This helps them avoid laying eggs in soil that has been sprinkled with cinnamon.

What’s more, this one the popular spice has bactericidal and fungicidal propertiesso at the same time it can prevent the formation of mold and other pathogens in the soil. However, it is worth knowing that Cinnamon does not directly get rid of ground beetles or their larvae, but only makes their lives more difficult.

It acts as a protective barrier and prevents further development of pests. It can be used as a preventive measure or as an action that supports other methods of combating ground mites. However, it is worth using it because it is a natural product that does not contain chemicals. In addition, it serves many functions thanks to its numerous properties.

Using cinnamon in the fight against groundworms is not complicated. However, we can do this in several ways, choosing the method that seems most convenient and best suited to our needs. Here are some ideas for using cinnamon when fighting groundworms:

  • Sprinkle the substrate – this is the simplest method, which involves evenly sprinkling the soil with ground cinnamon. Just a thin layer is enough to repel adult insects. However, remember not to sprinkle too much spice, because too thick a layer of cinnamon could hinder access of oxygen to the substrate.
  • Cinnamon infusion – we can also slightly enhance the effect of the spice and prepare an infusion from it. We only need to mix two tablespoons of ground cinnamon with 200 ml of hot water. After cooling down, strain the mixture through cheesecloth and then water the plant with it. This solution is especially useful when we suspect that ground beetle larvae have appeared in the soil.
  • Combination of methods – we can also combine different methods to obtain even better results. A good idea is to sprinkle the soil with cinnamon and then apply the infusion. We can also use sticky boards to catch adult ground gnats.

Cinnamon, as we mentioned, is best used as an adjunct to other methods of combating groundworms. Besides, we should move infected plants to a separate room. This will prevent the spread of these troublesome pests.

Additionally, it is worth replacing the soil. During this process, the roots of the plants should be thoroughly cleaned and only then should the specimens be transplanted into a new substrate. Many people also use this called the vinegar trap. To do this, mix vinegar, water and dish soap and pour the mixture into a yellow container. This color will attract groundhogs, which will then get caught in the trap we have set.
