An underestimated way to soak mushrooms. They will soften faster and will not be bitter

Dried mushrooms they contain a lot of flavor. However, before adding them to holiday dishes, we need to soak them. Find out how to do it so that you can enjoy their full flavor.

Drying is an effective method of storing mushrooms for a long time. As a result, they become hard and unpleasant to eat. Proper soaking is a chance to restore their moisture and original consistency. Mushrooms increase in volume and become soft, and quickly release their flavor and aroma in dishes.

With soaking it is also possible removal of all impuritiesthat may have remained after the drying process. They detach from the surface of the mushrooms and fall to the bottom. Thanks to this, we obtain a tasty and clean ingredient with a pleasant consistency, which is ideal for all types of dishes.

We have two mushroom soaking techniques to choose from. Both have their supporters and are effective. The first one involves pouring clean and boiled water over the mushrooms to cover them. The second one recommends pouring salted water over the mushrooms. In this case, remember that you will need to use less salt when cooking.

The mushrooms should soak for about 3-4 hours. It is worth pressing and stirring them from time to time. After this time, strain them and cook them. It is worth remembering not to dispose of water containing mushrooms. It is extremely aromatic and can be useful later for cooking. Before use, it is worth straining it through cheesecloth to reduce the risk of impurities appearing in the dish.

Water is not the only option we can use. Many recipes, especially old Polish ones, advise: soak the mushrooms in milk. Nowadays, this method is used very rarely. However, it cannot be denied that it will make the mushrooms even more delicate and, after preparation, they will actually melt in your mouth. It is worth using it with species of forest mushrooms that are bitter. Milk can help soften their taste.

Pour a portion of dried mushrooms lukewarm, salted milk. We soak them for 5-6 hours. After this time, we cook it briefly and add it to the dish of our choice.
