The president-elect has repeatedly attacked Bezos and his companies, the retailer Amazon and the newspaper The Washington Postaccusing them of tax evasion and publishing “fake news”. In 2019, Amazon attributed Trump’s “behind-the-scenes attacks” against the company to the loss of a multibillion-dollar Department of Defense contract.
Trump has also sometimes criticized Amazon for its use of the U.S. Postal Service, saying the company has contributed to the decline of the U.S. Postal Service.
Before the 2016 election, Bezos criticized Trump’s behavior, saying that the then-candidate “erodes our democracy.” He offered to launch Trump into space after the then-Republican candidate attacked Bezos for using the Post as a “tax shelter.”
