The former president () and the mayor (MDB) met for the first time since the end of the elections, during a lunch this Wednesday (4) with businesspeople in the center of the capital of São Paulo, at the home of Fabio Wajngarten, former secretary of Communications of the former president.

Although both sat side by side, the conversation between them was restricted to the topic discussed by the other guests at the meeting: the current economic scenario. Both criticized the government’s economic policy ().

Nunes is in negotiations with the 12 parties that supported him in the election to form his secretariat and has already started making invitations, according to interlocutors. Bolsonaro, however, did not make any request in this regard, as he had previously nominated the vice-elect on Nunes’ ticket, Coronel Mello Araújo (PL).

Mello Araújo, who participated in agendas with Bolsonaro in the interior of the state during the campaign and intermediated conversations between Nunes and the former president, is out of town and did not attend the meeting.

Some of the businesspeople, including financial market agents, did not know the two politicians personally and took the opportunity to pose for selfies at the end of lunch. Nunes, according to allies, believes he has difficulties in getting closer to Faria Lima, which also motivated him to participate in the event. There were around 30 people present.

Indicted by the Federal Police last month in the investigation into a coup plot in 2022, Bolsonaro endorsed, like Nunes, the criticisms of the spending cut package proposed by the Minister of Finance, (PT).

During the election campaign, the mayor repeated the former president’s speech and said that January 8 was not an attempted coup.

At this Wednesday’s meeting, Nunes mentioned the report produced by the JPMorgan bank, released two weeks ago, which recommended the purchase of Mexican shares over Brazilian shares.

At the end of the afternoon, Nunes announced the first name of her new team at city hall: career prosecutor Luciana Nardi, who will take over as the Municipal Attorney General’s Office (PGM). Nunes’ head of the PGM was also career prosecutor Marina Magro, who died on November 5 after battling cancer.
