The man was on a five-day cruise through Mexico. Authorities began looking for him after the ship docked in San Francisco, last Monday (02). His identity has not been revealed.
The suspicion is that he fell overboard at some point during the trip. The elderly man was traveling alone.
To the New York Post, a company spokesperson said they are working with authorities to unravel the mystery. “CCTV footage was also extensively reviewed and the ship was thoroughly searched several times, without success,” he said.
The U.S. Coast Guard said the search for the man has been halted. Aerial searches were carried out within a 72-kilometer radius of the coast of Monterey, California, according to the Associated Press.
