Do you remember all inclusive holidays where there was endless food and drink? This model is now slowly changing. People today want more than full plates and unlimited cocktails. They are looking for authenticity, experiences and sustainability. Hotels are reacting to this and the classic all inclusive is giving way to a new, modern concept of vacation.
It used to be synonymous with luxury. A vacation in an exotic paradise with unlimited access to food and alcohol has attracted millions of people from all over the world. All inclusive meant carefree – no worries about finances, no restrictions.
Buffets overflowed with food, bars mixed cocktails from morning to night, and tourists could indulge in anything, anytime. However, this dream of a perfect vacation is slowly fading away. The world is changing, and with it, ideas about what rest and a true vacation really mean.
“It is possible that all-inclusive will be greatly reduced, because it does no good,” says Roman Petrtyl, an expert in tourism, adding: “The locals don’t like the fact that tourists are locked up in hotels and can’t make money for local restaurants. Or they’ll roll out of the hotel drunk and do mischief.”

No more waste and a new approach
One of the main reasons why hotels are starting to move away from the classic all-inclusive model is waste. Every day, the kitchen prepares a huge amount of food, which often ends up in the bin. Guests scoop up full plates, but often don’t even finish half. This model is no longer sustainable not only from an ecological point of view, but also from an economic point of view. Hotels are well aware of the need to make changes that will be more friendly to the planet and their budget.
Instead of huge banquets with dozens of dishes, they now focus on quality. Although the menu is narrowing, the quality is increasing, and thanks to the smaller quantity, the individual dishes are fresh, local and prepared with an emphasis on taste and experience. Guests can thus enjoy authentic local cuisine, which is not only tasty but also healthier.
Alcohol under control
Of course, unlimited drinking of alcohol was also an inherent part of the classic all inclusive. Cocktails, wine and spirits were available throughout the day. However, this trend usually brought more problems than joy. Drunken guests, noisy scenes or a restless atmosphere by the pool are no longer what the modern tourist is looking for. Today, hotels limit the consumption of alcohol – either by setting a maximum number of drinks or even introducing designated areas for its consumption.
This move not only improves the atmosphere in the resorts but also promotes a healthier lifestyle. Many guests appreciate that thanks to this they can spend their vacation in a quieter environment where they can really relax.
Vacation as an experience
With the departure from the classic all inclusive, the very essence of the holiday is also changing. Tourists are no longer just looking for the comfort of a pool with a drink in hand, but want to experience something more. So hotels now offer various experiential programs – from cooking courses, through wellness stays, to sports activities or cultural trips. Instead of overeating and unlimited consumption, vacation becomes an opportunity to discover new things and improve physical and mental condition.
