“If he calls us…”: Christophe Maé snubbed for the big comeback of the musical The Sun King, Kamel Ouali comes out of the silence

It’s a return that is likely to please longtime fans. In 2005, and Albert Cohen, helped by the choreography, put on the musical The Sun King. A huge success which will last more than two years and which will allow several artists to achieve notoriety, starting with two of the main roles, and . In total, more than 400 performances, 1.5 million spectators and 1 million records sold as well as hits galore. At the end of last October, 20 years after the success of the first version, it was announced its big return for 2025 at the Dôme de Paris and several key figures in the success of the first version will be there.

Dove Attia and Kamel Ouali are back, as is Emmanuel Moire, who returns in the role of Louis XIV. “We contacted Manu for the 15th anniversary of the show. But he was not available. We said to ourselves then, either we do it with him or we don’t.” explains the 52-year-old choreographer, including, in an interview with Parisian this Thursday, before the main person concerned gives his version of the facts: “I wasn’t as impressed as I am now. It was complex for me to come back with very strong memories in mind, which I did not want to replace with new ones. A bit like when you look back on an old story and finally say to yourself: ‘I shouldn’t have’”.

Christophe Maé is welcome if he wishes to come back

If , is back, this is not the case for Christophe Maé. An absence that gets people talking and when Kamel Ouali is asked if the production called the 49-year-old singer, the answer is clear. “No. We did not contact Christophe. If he calls us to tell us we’re going, we’re going”he blurted out, before adding a little sentence which should not necessarily delight anyone who has: “But the title is the Sun King, so it’s Manu. Who, since then, has become a real actor.”

Unfortunately, the interpreter of On s’attache should not be part of the Sun King’s band, to the great dismay of his fans.
