The mayor of, , revealed that the possibility of a “small increase” in passenger movement at Santos Dumont Airport surprised the president . Paes mentioned that Lula plans to discuss the matter with the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, to better understand the situation. The Ministry of Ports and Airports informed that, in 2025, an assessment will be made on the feasibility of expanding the airport. However, to date, there have been no changes to the ordinance that limits operations at Santos Dumont. The expansion proposal was presented by Infraero, the company responsible for managing the airport.

Since January, a new resolution has come into force, restricting the number of passengers who can use the airport. The ministry argues that it is essential to analyze the need to diversify Infraero’s revenue sources, in addition to developing a strategy that strengthens aviation in the city of Rio de Janeiro. At a recent meeting in Brasília, Paes and Lula signed an agreement that aims to decentralize the management of the Andaraí and Cardoso Fontes federal hospitals, which will be administered by the city hall. The agreement includes an investment of R$610 million for the city, in addition to a transfer of R$150 million for immediate actions.
