The Duke of Sussex clarifies rumors and clarifies what he thinks of those who create them
Prince Harry has spoken publicly for the first time about Meghan Markle’s divorce rumors. Guest at the New York Times (NYT) 2024 DealBook Summit, the Duke of Sussex addressed the topic with NYT columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin about the public’s fascination with his marriage to Meghan.
“I looked you up on Google News and there were people fascinated by everything you’re doing all the time. They’re fascinated by Meghan, who’s in California at the moment, and you’re here. And there are articles left and right about, you know, ‘why are you doing independent events?, why aren’t you doing them together?”, began by asking Sorkin, and then tried to find out if “there is so much interest” in the life of couple was a good thing.
Harry, father of Princes Archie and Lilibet, says “this is definitely not a good thing.” “Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. It seems like we’ve also been divorced 10 or 12 times,” he joked.
For Meghan Markle’s husband, the only way to deal with the rumors is to ignore them. “I feel sorry for the trolls. I do, honestly.”
Harry also spoke about the couple’s life in Montecito, saying that raising five-year-old Archie and three-year-old Lilibet in the US was the right decision for their family. “I really enjoy living here and raising my children here,” she said, adding that children have the freedom to do things in the US that they “arguably couldn’t do in the UK”.
Meghan and Harry moved to California after stepping away from the British royal family in 2020.
