The PT and PSOL benches at Alesp (Legislative Assembly of ) are preparing a request for impeachment of the state secretary of Public Security of São Paulo, .
The document is being finalized by the acronyms’ legal teams, but it must accuse the head of the department of criminal responsibility and administrative improbity. The move comes after episodes of police violence in recent weeks called into question the police’s actions in the state.
State deputy Simão Pedro (PT) also contacted the Public Ministry of São Paulo (MP-SP) and asked for an investigation of the governor (Republicans) and Derrite for the creation of an ombudsman directly linked to the State Secretariat for Public Security (SSP) .
The parliamentarian asks that they be investigated for malfeasance and administrative improbity and also accuses the state government of not complying with the Ministry of Justice’s resolution on body cameras.
The action sent to the MP-SP states that the decision to create the new body “is impertinent and, perhaps, illegal” and would aim to “weaken the existing ombudsman’s office and, thus, undermine the population’s active participation in external control and transparency of police activity”.
the decision for the new ombudsman generated criticism from entities such as the OAB-SP (Brazilian Bar Association in São Paulo). The current Police Ombudsman, Claudio Aparecido Silva, has a critical view of the state government’s security policy.
The SSP says that the new ombudsman “will operate independently and will be related to the quality and improvement of services provided by the secretariat, with the exception of police incidents that violate human rights.”
“These cases will continue to be the responsibility of the Police Ombudsman’s Office, without any impact or limitation on its actions”, states the ministry.
