President Lula’s decision to withdraw the Connected Schools program from Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) is attributed within the government to excessive slowness in its implementation.
This Monday (2), a decree gave the Ministry of Communications responsibility for the program, which connects schools to 4G and 5G technologies for high-speed internet. The total resources available are more than R$3 billion.
In one year, 444 schools were connected, well below the target of 40,000 by 2026.
Last Tuesday (3), the ministry changed the composition of the Cost Monitoring Group for School Connectivity Projects (Gape), responsible for connectivity projects for public basic education schools.
With the measure, the government hopes to speed up the connection of schools, a campaign promise from President Lula.
