Tarcísio-Derrite duo accumulates crises; see each one of them – 12/04/2024 – Power

The governor () and the Secretary of Public Security, , are involved in a new crisis involving security in the state of and the actions and operations carried out since the beginning of the mandate.

A police officer was caught over the weekend in the Cidade Ademar region, in the south of the capital, after a chase. The images were published by Jornal da Globo and Globonews, and the SSP stated that it repudiated the illegal conduct of the agents.

This Wednesday (4), the preventive of first class soldier Luan Felipe Alves Pereira. The decision will be made by the São Paulo Military Court of Justice.

The case generated even more from Palácio dos Bandeirantes. Public security is an electorally sensitive issue that has been used by the governor as a showcase — which appeals to his right-wing audience.

Tarcísio talks about running for reelection in 2026, given the ineligibility of (). Derrite is already mentioned as a possible candidate for the Senate, vice-governor or even governor, if Tarcísio runs for Palácio do Planalto.

Before this case, the São Paulo PM had already been accumulating controversies. Derrite was responsible for the . The last one is the most lethal in the history of the São Paulo Military Police since the Carandiru massacre in 1992.

Man thrown from bridge

A PM was caught throwing a man from the top of a bridge in the Cidade Ademar region, in the south of the capital, after being chased. The action took place on Rua Padre Antônio de Gouveia and was recorded on video, released on Monday (2). Tarcísio and Derrite criticized the approach and asked for punishment for the agent.

Death of black man in front of market

Images from security cameras revealed by the G1 website show an incident on November 3, in which Gabriel Renal da Silva Soares, a 26-year-old black man, was off duty in front of a market in Jardim Prudência, south of São Paulo.

According to agents, Gabriel had stolen four laundry detergents.

Death of medical student

In the early hours of November 20th, medical student Marco Aurélio Cardenas Acosta, 22, inside a hotel in Vila Mariana, also in the south zone. The young man allegedly hit a car mirror with a slap, which led to the violent approach.

According to the Public Security Secretariat, the police officer was indicted on suspicion of intent and removed from operational duty.

Death of PCC whistleblower

Antônio Gritzbach, 38, sentenced to death by the criminal faction PCC (Primeiro Comando da Capital), was killed by rifle shots outside Guarulhos airport, on the afternoon of November 8th.

In a plea bargain, Gritzbach had accused police officers of involvement in organized crime.

Party in Maresias

At Tarcísio’s request, Derrite canceled a trip to the USA that he would take two days after Gritzbach’s death. However, as revealed by Sheethours after the crime, the secretary went to a birthday party in a , accompanied by police officers from the state’s top brass.

Death of boy Ryan

Ryan da Silva Andrade Santos, 4, was playing in the street with other children when he was shot during a police operation in Morro de São Bento, in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo on November 5th.

The child’s father had been killed in another operation, in February this year.

PCC voting guidance

On the day of the second round, Tarcísio stated, without presenting evidence, that members of the PCC advised voting for Guilherme Boulos. The PSOL candidate called the speech criminal and filed a lawsuit with the Electoral Court asking for the ineligibility of Tarcísio and Nunes. The following week, the governor avoided the press and did not want to talk about the case.

Attack on mayor

The mayor of Taboão da Serra (SP), José Aprígio (Podemos), 72, suffered a shooting attack and was hit in the shoulder, inside his official armored car, in October. He was hospitalized for a week.

Association between the PCC and bus companies

Operation Fim da Linha, launched in April, targeted two bus companies operating in the capital, suspected of laundering money for the criminal faction. The topic appeared in the election, and Ricardo Nunes (MDB), sponsored by Tarcísio, was questioned.

Increased lethality and ‘I don’t care’

The numbers show in the state during the Tarcísio administration. There were 580 deaths by police officers from January to September 2024, an increase of 55% compared to the same period in 2023, which had 374 deaths.

In March, when organizations were already pointing out growth, Tarcísio said he was “very calm” with what was being done. “And then people can go to the UN, they can go to the Justice League, whatever the hell, I don’t care,” he declared.

Cameras on PM uniforms

In the campaign, Tarcísio said he was against the use of equipment which, according to him, would inhibit police officers. Then, he went back and kept the cameras, but cut funding for the program and more recently adopted a model in which agents have the ability to turn the device on and off.
