Tarcísio doesn’t care about the killing and police barbarity – 12/05/2024 – Marcos Augusto Gonçalves

“Honestly, we are very calm with what is being done. And then people can go to the UN (United Nations), they can go to the Justice League, whatever the hell they want, and I don’t care.”

The famous words of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas on operations on the coast, which reached the United Nations.

for this Sheet showed that in the first eight months of this year, 441 people were killed in the state by security agents on duty, compared to 247 in the same period last year. It is an increase of 78%.

Now, two disgusting episodes fuel the chronicle of official barbarity. A 26-year-old black man was shot in the back by a military police officer who was off duty. Shortly before being hit, the boy had stolen some cleaning products from one of the store’s shelves, in Vila Prudência, south of the capital.

The video from security cameras shows, without a doubt, what happened. Against the facts, however, the shooter had the gall to claim that he acted in self-defense. If it weren’t for the images, would we know the fact? Or would it be another falsified “self-defense” that would not come to light?

In the other case, one, in the Cidade Ademar neighborhood, in the same southern region. The appalling action of abuse of force was also recorded on video.

Faced with the two spectacles of savagery, Tarcísio de Freitas went online to say that the Military Police is an institution that “values, above all, its professionalism when it comes to protecting people.” It would be worthwhile for the president to consult residents of favelas and deprived neighborhoods to find out if his words correspond to the feelings of the black and poor population.

The Secretary of Security, the sinister Guilherme Derrite, stated that “isolated actions like this cannot tarnish the image of an institution that has been providing good services for our population for almost 200 years.” Given the terminology, one has to wonder about the profile of this “our” population.

The hypocrisy of Tarcísio and Derrite, two characters from Bolsonarism, does not disguise what is already seen as a loss of control over the troops. Let’s talk about the one that exposed promiscuity between police officers and the faction.

Yes, police officers do a hard job and suffer criminal attacks. But revenge in kind is not a legal prerogative. We don’t pay taxes to have people shot in the back and thrown off a bridge. Or for killings. The São Paulo police ombudsman, Claudio Silva, highlighted that the protocol measures have not been effective “in stopping this bloodshed in our state, the result of a policy of death and revenge”.

The hard line is backfiring. Tarcísio felt he got it wrong, but he will act on the effect and not the cause.

Increase in , violence against poor and black people, resistance to body cameras and violation of laws. This is what the governor and his squire Derrite need to account for.
