President of the EU government arrives in Montevideo for a meeting in which the conclusion of trade agreement negotiations is expected to be announced
The president of the EU (European Union) government, Ursula von der Leyen, arrived this Thursday (Dec 5, 2024) in Montevideo, Uruguay. He will participate in the Mercosul Summit, a meeting of the bloc’s presidents on Friday (Dec 6).
Von der Leyen said in a post (ex-Twitter) that the EU-Mercosur agreement is “in sight” and will establish a market of 700 million people. “It will be the largest trade and investment partnership the world has ever seen“, he stated.
Ursula will have a meeting this Thursday (Dec 5) with the president of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou (National Party, center-right).
The conclusion of negotiations for the agreement should be announced at the Summit, with the presence of Von der Leyen. There will be new steps until the signing of the agreement.

“The finish line of the EU-Mercosur agreement is in sight.
“Let’s work. Let’s cross it
“We have the chance to create a market of 700 million people.
