When replanting a flower, we choose a ceramic pot, a few centimeters larger than the previous one. As for the position suitable for Zamioculcas, it should be bright, but not directly exposed to sunlight. The plant also tolerates partial shading. Extremes are the worst for it – the bright sun burns the leaves and brown spots appear on them. In turn, in very dark places, the leaves stretch out and become light green. The optimal temperature for zamia is 25 degrees C, below 5 degrees C the plant dies. It is also worth remembering that zamioculcas stems bend towards the light, so if we want to enjoy a nice shape, remember to turn the pot from time to time. Moderate watering is also important. Zamioculus tolerates drought better than excess water. The plant stores its reserves in leaves and roots. Therefore, it can withstand even long weeks without water, but excess water can kill it. Overwatered zamioklukas rots from the roots and then loses its leaves. It is best to water it when the top layer of the soil is completely dry. For irrigation we use settled water at room temperature. Zamia also likes being sprayed with soft water.
Zamikulkas will thicken in no time. Water it with homemade fertilizer and it will start growing new leaves even in winter
To strengthen the zamioculcas and encourage the flower to grow new leaves, it is worth watering it with a homemade conditioner. The easiest one to make is nettle tea, which will provide the plant with the ingredients it needs to grow. Pour two bags of dried nettles with hot water and set aside to cool. Then strain the infusion and water the plant once every 2-3 weeks. You can also use coffee grounds. Mix them with the substrate or prepare an infusion that is rich in nitrogen, magnesium, calcium and potassium. After brewing the coffee, collect the grounds and place them in a container, add water in the proportion: four tablespoons of grounds per glass of water. After 24 hours, strain the infusion through a strainer to separate the grounds from the liquid. Water the plant once every 2-3 weeks.
Is zamioculcas poisonous?
Zamikulkas is valued for its beautiful fleshy leaves and is an ornament in itself. It probably won’t bloom in home conditions, but it’s not impossible. In summer and autumn, older plants produce white-cream flowers that resemble anthuriums. However, it is not a spectacular sight, although it may be impressive due to the rarity of this phenomenon. Although zamioculcas belongs to the group of plants that purify the air from formaldehydes and will grow well in a shaded bedroom, you have to be careful if you have pets. Zamioculcas is poisonous. It emits toxic substances, and touching the plant may cause allergies, irritation of the mucous membranes, vomiting and stinging of the tongue.
