Personal information was disclosed during research into payment habits
The BC (Central Bank of Brazil) this Thursday (Dec 5, 2024) faced a security incident that resulted in the undue exposure of data from 1,500 people.
This happened during the publication of the results of the 2nd edition of the survey “Brazilians and habits of using payment methods”made between October and November 2023. The data was exposed specifically on November 29, the bank reported.
The operational error led to the disclosure of information such as name, address, telephone number, among other personal and financial data.
The BC says it acted quickly upon identifying the error, removing the publication from the internet and replacing it with a version without personal data. The institution reported that the information exposed did not include passwords or data under banking secrecy. It pledged to notify affected individuals and warn them of potential scam attempts.
The research aimed to help define public policies for payment methods in Brazil. The Central Bank reported that it is adopting measures to avoid the repetition of errors.
