To prepare herring salad for the holidaysyou will need:

  • 400 g herrings in oil,
  • 500 g potatoes,
  • 200 g of grated yellow cheese,
  • 50 g of cheese in a piece or slices,
  • 2 beets,
  • 4 eggs,
  • 3 large carrots,
  • 3 pickled cucumbers,
  • 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise,
  • 1 tablespoon of cream 12%,
  • 1 teaspoon of horseradish,
  • a bit of lemon juice (for the sauce and herring),
  • salt and pepper.

Start by cooking the potatoes, carrots and beets in salted water. You can cook potatoes and carrots together, but put the beets in a separate pot. After cooling down, cut everything into small cubes.

Hard boil the eggs, peel and chop very finely. Drain the pickled cucumbers and chop them finely. Dry the herring from the oil and cut into small pieces. Sprinkle with a little lemon juice. Cut the cheese in pieces or slices into small pieces.

Mix mayonnaise, sour cream, horseradish and lemon juice in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Now arrange the salad in layers in a bowl: herrings, grated cheese and grated potatoes. Season lightly with salt and pepper and add: carrots, beets, eggs. Now spread the prepared sauce evenly on top. Decorate everything with pieces of cheese. Place the salad in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours before serving.
