Manuel Luís Goucha is the protagonist on the cover of ‘Cristina’ magazine for the month of December. The presenter was speaking with Cristina Ferreira about various topics, one of them being the departure of her mother Maria de Lourdes, which took place in August this year.
At a certain point, and after remembering her husband Rui Oliveira’s care for his mother, highlighting that her husband “gave her a bath, helped her walk, woke up during the night” and “went whenever she called”, Manuel Luís Goucha also remembered a “hard” episode.
“One day, Rui wasn’t there, and I had to help her go to the bathroom. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. You can’t imagine. I cried a lot. We are not supposed to be parents to our parents. That woman that I idealized, a strong woman, a rock, at that moment was so fragile that I had to help her sit on the toilet. I cried drool and snot. I knew fragility”he admitted.
When confronted by his friend about whether he had ever done it again, Manuel Luís Goucha said that “it wasn’t necessary”, however, leaving an outburst: “(…) When you have to do it, you have to do it, and it’s out of love. Now, the first time was a shock”he confessed.
