“Parliament does not govern” vs. “The Government that gets used to democracy”

Miranda Sarmento, Minister of Finance

Minister Miranda Sarmento had left a “message” that already generated a response from Pedro Nuno Santos.

Joaquim Miranda Sarmento reinforced that the Government wants to lower the IRC – Corporate Income Tax for 25% or 26%.

But, explains in , this intention of the Government was “very limited, very restricted by Parliament decisions (opposition) before the presentation of the State Budget for 2025″.

When journalist Vítor Gonçalves highlighted that this opposition action was inevitable, due to the current composition of the Assembly of the Republic.

The Minister of Finance disagrees: “It is not, if the oppositions realize that the Parliament is not for governing“.

Pedro Nuno Santos already reacted to these words: “The Government has to get used to living in democracy. That’s just how democracy is,” the PS general secretary told journalists.

In the same interview on RTP, the subject that occupied the first minutes of the conversation was that of the firefighters at the door of the Government headquarters.

“It was a attitude that does not dignify firefighters“, Miranda Sarmento shot directly.

“What surprises me is that firefighters don’t appreciate that we are trying to reach a valuation similar to that of other careers. There has to be one here balance, whether budgetary or between public service careers”, reacted the Minister of Finance.
