Public service on strike: health will be one of the most affected sectors

Public service workers have been on strike since midnight. The main demand is the valorization of careers. The Health sector will be one of the most affected.

The 24-hour shutdown will mainly affect the Health and Educationbut also municipal services.

Teaching professionals are unhappy after the Minister of Education ruled out the possibility of creating a special career for non-teaching workers.

In healthcare, professionals complain about the delay in implementing the assistant technician careerwhich has been in effect since January.

In the first hours of the 24-hour strike, the participation numbers are revealing: all over the country, health units are operating with minimum services.

According to Elisabete Gonçalves, from the Federation of Public Service Workers Unions, andn Lisbon, adherence is, in the first round, 100% at Hospital de São José and 85% at Hospital Amadora-Sintra. At the Alfredo da Costa Maternity Hospital it is 90%.

The striking professionals hope that the Government will resolve the problems of health professionals. “We have careers that have not been reviewed since 2008”, points out the person in charge.
