Before, colors were just… colors; now they have another context. “And they say cancel culture is a Western phenomenon.”
O Natal is already beginning to be visible in Russia – despite being marked only on the day.
Russians consider Christmas a strictly religious and family holiday; but in the streets you can also see the decorations, as lights.
Em Nizhny Novgorod, one of the largest cities in Russia, Gorky Square once again had a tree of Christmas.
The tree was only placed last week but there was already something that was to disturb some of the local inhabitants: the blue and yellow decorations (which were many and clearly visible).
Therefore, everything that was blue and yellow was removed. In its place, yellow and red ornaments can now be seen.
A local newspaper explains the differences and writes the obvious: “Of course everyone understands why the previous colors suddenly confused part of the population”.
“In the past, this combination was common; now, it carries a context” – yes, they are the colors of flag of Ukraine.
But the same newspaper, NewsNN, says: “The only thing that hasn’t changed is the importance of money and time spent on urgently replacing decor.. However, the fear of accidentally offending someone turned out to be stronger than these trifles.”
The “mouths” continue right after: “And they say cancel culture is a Western phenomenon. We have everything too, just in our own style.”
