The Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office opened this Thursday a preliminary investigation into the president, Dina Boluarte, for the alleged commission of the crime of abandonment of office and omission of functional acts by having hidden from the Council of Ministers and Congress a surgery that he underwent in 2023.

“The Attorney General’s Office, through the Area of Illicit Enrichment and Constitutional Complaints, has initiated a preliminary investigation against Dina Boluarte Zegarra, in her capacity as President of the Republic, for the alleged crimes of omission of functional acts, and/or alternatively for the alleged crime of abandonment of office,” the Public Ministry announced on the social network

He added that the facts refer to the failure to communicate the temporary impediment to the exercise of the position as president to the Council of Ministers and the Congress of the Republic, from June 29 to July 9, 2023, “as a result of a surgical procedure to which she was subjected.”

This Tuesday, former Prime Minister Alberto Otárola, who held the position during that period of time, declared in a Congressional commission that the president underwent surgery on her nose, but considered that there was no power vacuum. “As is public knowledge, the President of the Republic, on the indicated dates, underwent a surgical procedure, but in this procedure, as happens to any person, He was not neglecting, much less the tasks that were his responsibility. and I know it because I was president of the Council of Ministers at that time,” he declared.

He explained that the president underwent the intervention due to a “respiratory problem,” and that, after the postoperative process, Boluarte remained in permanent contact with him. “From my point of view, there was no power vacuum; we knew that a surgical intervention was going to be performed.. We always maintained telephone communication with the president, Dina Boluarte,” said the former prime minister, who held this position from December 2022 to March 2024.

Likewise, this Wednesday the president of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzén, He denied that the president was leaving her position and assured that “he has always remained at the head of the Executive Branch.”

Boluarte does not have vice presidents because he held that position when Pedro Castillo was dismissed by Congress, on December 7, 2022, after attempting a coup d’état, which led to him assuming the head of State by constitutional succession.

The Prosecutor’s Office has already opened several investigations into Boluarte for several cases such as the deaths in the anti-government protests at the end of 2022 and beginning of 2023, and also for the alleged commission of the crime of passive bribery in what is known as ‘Rolexgate’, after having appeared luxury watches and jewelry without having declared them.

In addition, the Public Ministry is investigating a case of corruption in the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion when she was still a minister, the alleged use of her official vehicle in the escape of her former leader, the politician Vladimir Cerrón, and also having deactivated a police team. anti-corruption special that was investigating his brother.
