Three Brazilian Olympic medalists are ending their cycle in the world of sports. Swimmer Bruno Fratus, judoka Rafael Silva, Baby, and Ágatha, from beach volleyball, will announce their retirement from competitions. The press conference that will mark the farewell of the three athletes will be held at a hotel in Rio de Janeiro, next Wednesday.
One of the biggest names in swimming in Brazil, Bruno Fratus ends his career at 35 years old. His best moment came at the Tokyo Olympic Games, held in 2021. In that edition of the competition, he won the bronze medal in the 50m freestyle. Hampered by repeated injuries, the swimmer was not part of the Brazilian delegation in Paris-2024.
At 37 years old, Rafael Silva, aka Baby, is another Brazilian medalist who is saying goodbye. He competed in his fourth Olympics in Paris and was eliminated in his debut by Azerbaijani athlete Ushangi Kokauri. In addition to the two bronze medals won in London-2012 and Rio-2016, the judoka was part of the Brazilian team that won bronze in the mixed team event in Paris.
Completing the list of national medalists who are ending their athlete phase, Ágatha is also saying goodbye. Silver medalist alongside Bárbara Seixas in Rio 2016, she was also present in Tokyo, held in 2021. In a recent interview, the 41-year-old athlete said that she now intends to dedicate more time with her daughter Kahena.
